Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad crowned the winners of His Excellency’s Rifle Day

WATCH THE RACE

Under the patronage and in presence of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Rifle Day, was held on Saturday, January 29, at QREC Al Rayyan turf track.

Following the 10th and final race of the day, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the winners of the last two races of meeting; the Gr PA HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians, which was won by the Al Shaqab Racing-owned Mwarid, and the HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Rifle for Thoroughbreds, which was landed by Noor Al Hawa in the colours of Al Wasmiyah Farm. His Excellency also crowned the winners of Al Sabiq Ride, which was topped by Saleh Salem Al Marri onboard AJS BARZAN. HE Issa Bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, QREC Chairman, was present during the trophy presentation ceremony.

Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Mwarid (FR, Amer x Al Nachmiya) continued dazzling with a second black-type victory and sixth straight win in seven-career starts. The 6YO clinched the HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy, a Gr3 2200m contest for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians, by a neck, completing a double for jockey Soufiane Saadi and extending the impressive success of trainer Alban de Mieulle to five wins on the day.

The winner just edged Umm Qarn’s Abbes (FR, TM Fred Texas), ridden by Ronan Thomas, for Alban de Mieulle who recorded a brilliant one-two. H.E. Sheikha Reem M K Al-Thani-owned and Rudy Andre Nerbonne-trained superstar Ebraz (Amer) was third under Maxime Guyon.

WATCH THE RACE

As ever on big days, Al Wasmiyah Farm’s Noor Al Hawa (FR) (Makfi x Majestic Roi) confirmed his superiority landing the HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Rifle with a fantastic front-running victory by almost four lengths in the 2200m contest for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds, recording a double on the day for Al Wasmiyah Farm, trainer Georges Mikhalides and jockey Alberto Sanna.

The nine-year-old superstar not only recorded his eighth straight win, but also succeeded in defending his title from last year and returned to keep for the second year in a row; a feat which he shared with the same owner, the same trainer and the same jockey. The Injaaz Stud-owned and Zuhair Mohsen-trained Hellenistique, who was the runner-up in the same race last year, filled the same spot in this year’s renewal, but was ridden this time by Maxime Guyon. David Allan guided Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s King Pacha (IRE) (Acclamation), saddled by Gassim Ghazali, to a third place finish.

WATCH THE RACE

Mohammed Bin Fahad Al Attiya’s Gr3 winner Sahab (FR, AF AlBahar x Manella) took the HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy for 4YO Purebred Arabians by half a length under Maxime Guyon, giving trainer Alban de Mieulle a quick-fire double and a fourth win on the day.

The Eng. Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik-owned and Debbie Moutain-trained Nirond (FR, TM Fred Texas) finished second under Eduardo Pedroza in front of the third-placed Jassim Mohamed Al Darwish’s Falaah (FR, AF AlBahar), who is trained by Mohammed Ghazali and was ridden by Faleh Bughanaim. QREC Racing Manager, Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, crowned the winners.

WATCH THE RACE

Abdullah Bin Fahad Al Attiyah’s HM Jalfane (FR, Dahess x Al Musck) won the HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians regaining winning thread with superb performance.

Soufiane Saadi guided the 5YO to top the 1750m race by three and a quarter lengths, recording a third success for trainer Alban de Mieulle on the day. The Nayef Bin Saad Bin Sharida Al Kaabi-owned and Ronan Thomas-ridden First Classs (USA, Dahess) was the runner-up giving the winning trainer another one-two on the day. The H.E. Sheikha Yasmeen Bint Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al-Thani-owned and Rudy Andre Nerbonne-trained Mon’Nia (FR, Amer) finished third under Alberto Sanna.

WATCH THE RACE

In Al Azraq Stable’s colours, Inqath (QA) (Dahess x Ezdehar) won the 1400m Local Purebred Arabian Novice Cup for 4YO+ by three quarters of a length for trainer Bader Al Balushi and jockey Lukas Delozier. The minor honours went to the Khalifa Hassan Al-Jehani-owned and Khalifa Hamed Nasser Al Sawai-trained AJS Soghan (QA, AF AlBahar) and the Jassim Mohamed Al-Darwish-owned and Mohammed Ghazali-trained Ranan (QA, Mared Al Sahra) in this order. They were partnered by Eduardo Pedroza and David Allan respectively.

WATCH THE RACE

Umm Qarn’s homebred Blue Star (QA, Al Mamun Monlau x Raqiyah) kickstarted the H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Rifle Day winning the 1750m Maiden for 4-6YO Local Purebred Arabians. Carlos Henrique rode the Alban de Mieulle-trained 4YO filly to a one-and-a-half length victory and to make it third time lucky after she finished second in her two previous starts. The Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned and Julian Smart-trained Tilmeeth (QA, AF AlBahar) was the runner-up under Marco Casamento while the Al Hedfa Stud-owned and Bader Al Balushi-trained Mukaabed (QA) (Dahess) finished third under Al Moatasem Al Balushi.
